ISA Standards Gurus Get Global Kudos

This post was authored by Eliana Beattie and Ellen Fussell Policastro.

ISA Standards gurus Ted Schnaare and Steve Brown were among the 15 US National Committee (USNC) experts who received the prestigious International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) 1906 Award for 2011.

Schnaare’s contributions boost process efficiency as he convenes IEC TC31/WG30, Equipment processing sealing; provides significant input for the intrinsic safety standards; and records Maintenance Team 60079-11 decisions. As Chair of ISA12, Electrical equipment for hazardous locations; Schnaare is also a member of the ISA Standards and Practices Department Board and serves as Technical Advisor for the ISA-administered SC31G US Technical Advisory Group (TAG), Intrinsically-safe apparatus.

Steve Brown assures project progress and timely completion as Project Leader of two projects (multimeters and x-ray equipment) in IEC TC66, Safety of measuring, control and laboratory equipment. Brown is an integral member of ISA82, Electrical and electronic instrumentation, and of the TC66 US TAG. He helps ensure a smooth flow with the adoption and co-publication of IEC 61010 standards by ISA and Underwriters Laboratories Inc.

The IEC 1906 Award recognizes experts who make an exceptional contribution to the technical work of the IEC. USNC President Phil Piqueira invites all IEC 1906 Award recipients to attend the USNC Council meeting on Thursday, 15 September 2011, at the Consumer Electronics Association Headquarters in Arlington, Va. They will receive their awards in person at around 9:30 a.m.
