ISA Training and Education in June: Learn, Advance, Succeed

June training and education opportunities cover a wide range of topics and professional preparation classes, including boiler room safety, CCST and Control Systems Engineer Professional Engineer exam review, business-to-MES Training_Knowledgeintegration, batch control and SIL verification.  In addition, throughout June the ISA Houston Section will host ISA’s Technical Training Camp, an intensive educational experience designed to meet the automation and control community’s needs for comprehensive technical training in a highly condensed format.  The Section will be sponsoring a three-part training event, marking the first time ISA has offered its newest in-depth training events – Technician Training Boot Camp, Automation Engineering Survival Training, and Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) Boot Camp – all in one location.

Introduction to Boiler Control Systems (ES15C)
This seminar will give process control system engineers, managers, project engineers, operators, and technicians in boiler houses and power plants a basic understanding of boiler operation and control. The one-day class will be held 6 June in Orlando, Fla.

Overview of Setpoints For Nuclear Safety-Related Instrumentation (IC68PD)
The course will discuss the terminology and the appropriate use of the ANSI/ISA67 standard and the steps necessary for the development of safety-related setpoint analysis. ANSI/ISA-67.04.01 has been used as the basis for many plant specific setpoint programs and setpoint calculations. The changes to this standard should be reflected in all programs where compliance to Nuclear Regulatory Commission requirements is necessary. This course is a one-time special offering being held in conjunction with the 56th annual ISA POWID Division Symposium. The two-day class will start 6 June in Orlando, Fla.

Boiler Burner Management Systems − Meeting NFPA Standards (ES16C)
Boiler explosions have resulted in loss of major facilities as well as loss of life. With emphasis in industry on process safety, the design of burner management systems is now more important than ever. This seminar provides a quick overview of the requirements for single and multiple boiler burners using the 85 Code. This one-day class will be held 7 June in Orlando, Fla.

Certified Control Systems Technician® (CCST®) Level III Exam Review Course (TS03)
This course reviews the knowledge and skills areas included on the Certified Control Systems Technician® (CCST®) Level III examination. The intent is to prepare an automation professional who meets the exam criteria to take the exam. The content is based on the job analysis domains, tasks, knowledge areas, and skill areas developed as the basis for the CCST certification exam. The 4.5-day course starts 10 June at ISA headquarters in Research Triangle Park, N.C.

Implementing Business-to-MES Integration Using the ANSI/ISA95 Standard (IC55)
Many manufacturing firms have made significant investments in flexible shop-floor execution systems as well as sophisticated enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems. Those investments, however, cannot yield their full potential until each has access to the information and capabilities of the other. The ANSI/ISA95 standard addresses that coordination problem by providing a sound, robust definition of business activities and of the information that must flow between those two realms. The two-day class will start on 13 June in Eindhoven, Netherlands.

Safety Instrumented Systems--Design, Analysis and Justification (EC50)
This course focuses on the engineering requirements for the specification, design, analysis, and justification of safety instrumented systems for the process industries. Students will learn how to determine safety integrity levels and evaluate whether proposed or existing systems meet the performance and documentation requirements defined in the ISA 84 (IEC61511) standard. Part of ISA Technical Training Camp, the four-day class starts 18 June in Houston, Tex.

Advanced Safety Integrity Level Selection (EC52)
This course focuses on further hands-on examples of safety integrity level (SIL) selection using a variety of different techniques. Students will be better able to save their companies time and money through the optimization of system performance requirements. This course is a follow-on to EC50 (Safety Instrumented Systems—Design, Analysis, and Justification). The course is required for the ISA84 Safety Instrumented Systems Certificate Program 2. You can register for the course only or for the certificate program which includes course and exam. The two-day course is offered at two locations. One class starts on 17 June at ISA headquarters in Research Triangle Park, N.C. and the other class will start 24 June in Houston, Tex.

Installing, Calibrating, and Maintaining Electronic Instruments (TI25)
This popular course offers a combination of practical information and hands-on experience, covering proper installation, calibration, and maintenance of electronic instruments. You will examine characteristics of electronic control systems; techniques for installing electronic instruments; and procedures for configuring and calibrating transmitters, transducers, and controllers. Approximately 40 percent of your time in this course is spent working with equipment. The 4.5-day class starts 17 June at ISA headquarters in Research Triangle Park, N.C.  The course also is offered as part of ISA TechTour, starting 24 June in Corpus Christi, Tex.

Fundamentals of Industrial Automation (FG07XCL)
This course provides an overview of industrial measurement and control. Technicians, engineers, managers and those wanting to gain more practical knowledge in this area are provided with the fundamentals to more effectively communicate with other control system professionals. The three-day class starts 18 June in Shelby, N.C.

Certified Control Systems Technician® (CCST®) Level I Review Course (TS00E)
ISA’s CyberU online instructor-led training course offers the benefit of a high quality ISA training course with the added advantage of studying at your own pace in the office, at home or while traveling. This online course utilizes online training modules, additional text materials, online evaluations, and email discussions. Students will have access via email to an instructor and have an opportunity to participate in live Q&A sessions with the instructor and other class participants. The 10-week Web class starts 24 June.

Advanced Design and SIL Verification (EC54)
This two-day course focuses on more detailed design issues and further hands-on examples of system analysis/modeling. Students will be better able to perform system design and analysis thus saving their companies time and money in optimizing system designs. This course will enable you to analyze any system technology and configuration to see if it will meet the required SIL (safety integrity level) and determine if existing systems are safe enough, if they need to be upgraded, and whether proposed systems will meet the performance requirements. The class will start 19 June in Columbia, Ill. As part of ISA Technical Training Camp, the course also will be held in Houston, Tex. with a 26 June start date.

Batch Control Using the ANSI/ISA88 Standards (IC40)
This course presents an approach to developing functional requirements/specifications using the models and terminology defined in the ANSI/ISA88 batch control standards. A review of the characteristics of batch manufacturing systems is included. Participants will explore the ANSI/ISA88 concept that separates the recipe from the equipment. This course includes a methodology that defines an object approach based on ANSI/ISA88 that promotes the reuse of these objects from one project to the next. The three-day class starts 19 June in Eindhoven, Netherlands.

Advanced Operation of Digital (Smart) Transmitters and Digital Valve Controllers (TS16)
This lab-intensive course focuses on the configuration fundamentals, the calibration process, the measurements of multiple variables, and the utilization of computer-based configuration tools for both digital transmitters and digital valve controllers. This course offers hands-on, working knowledge of smart field devices with an emphasis on measurement accuracy, advanced information gathering, decreased maintenance time, ease-of-configuration and calibration, and diagnostic capabilities. The 4.5-day class starts 24 June at ISA headquarters in Research Triangle Park, N.C.
