Manufacturing Day, which takes place the first Friday of every October, falls on 7 Oct. 2022 this year. The day exists both to showcase what modern manufacturing looks like and to demonstrate to students, parents, teachers and community leaders what opportunities the field offers. Industry 4.0 continues to produce new technologies, which opens the doors for new career opportunities in robotics, data analytics, bioengineering, and more.
The Manufacturing Institute, along with Fabricators and Manufacturers Association, International, established Manufacturing Day in 2012 in an effort to alter the public’s opinion of modern manufacturing. Today, The Manufacturing Institute hosts Manufacturing Day and asks manufacturing companies to help highlight manufacturing career paths. Championing manufacturing careers has become more important than ever, considering labor shortages. For example, Deloitte projects that the U.S. will be short more than two million manufacturing workers, causing more than $3 trillion of loss to the economy.
NextFlex, one of nine Manufacturing Innovation Institutes established by the Department of Defense (DoD) Manufacturing Technology Program, will host a free Manufacturing Day event for high school students in San Jose, California, on 7 Oct. Attendees will go on a tour of the facility, talk with technologists, and hear about how Industry 4.0 is changing aerospace, automotive, healthcare and energy. Learn more about the event and sign up on the company website.
ABB hosted a “Community Open House” on Wednesday, 5 Oct. for those 5th grade and older to acknowledge Manufacturing Day. Those in attendance toured its Fort Smith, Arkansas plant, met with the staff, and learned about manufacturing in the 21st century.
